Medical Billing Specialist

Job Description

A boutique medical practice in the northern suburbs of Chicago is seeking an organized and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to add to their team. The Medical Billing Specialist will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the practice’s billing and coding office in a timely and diligent manner. Additional responsibilities include maintaining billing software and patient records, recording late payments, and preparing bills and invoices. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Availity and Nextech billing software, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. The salary for this role is $50-80k, commensurate with experience.



Responsibilities of the Medical Billing Specialist:


  • Manage and process all insurance claims; review and resubmit insurance denials for payment

  • Ensure patient’s medical information is accurate and up to date

  • Prepare bills and invoices, and document amounts due for medical procedures and services

  • Monitor and record late payments; follow-up on missed payments, and resolve financial discrepancies

  • Examine patient bills for accuracy; help patients develop patient payment plans

  • Maintain billing software to ensure records are accurate and up to date

  • Additional tasks and projects as needed

Job Requirements

Requirements of the Medical Billing Specialist:


  • 1-3 years of medical billing experience

  • Availity and Nextech software experience required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent knowledge of CPT, ICD9, and ICD10 coding

  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and successfully manage competing priorities

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Motivated, responsible, and resourceful individual

  • Strong ability to work independently with little direction/supervision
