The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive classified national security information.

In support of the NSA mission, the Agency employs a wide variety of business professionals to process financial transactions and provide associated reporting. The Audit, Accounting and Financial Services organization is responsible for all facets of financial reporting for the National Security Agency. We rely on the skills of our accounting and financial analysis professionals to support the internal infrastructure of a federal agency comparable in size and budget to Fortune 100 companies.

Description of Position

Internal Control Accountant

As an Internal Control Accountant at the NSA focusing on Internal Audit, you will be instrumental in administering and potentially remediating a wide array of critical accounting work streams, using the PeopleSoft financial system. Responsibilities of an Internal Control Accountant include, but are not limited to:

-- Monitoring financial systems operations for legal compliance and internal control purposes;
-- Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) -- collecting risk information on management objectives;
-- Internal Audit Testing (IAT) -- testing internal controls based on FMFIA, FFMIA, and IPERIA requirements;
-- Preparing and submitting the Agency Statement of Assurance on enterprise risk management and internal controls;
-- Managers' Internal Controls (MIC) -- providing core data on the reliance on internal controls over financial reporting and financial systems;
-- Applying proper techniques to audit sampling and testing;
-- Producing high-quality and thorough audit reports with value-added audit recommendations;
-- Performing root cause analysis where necessary to identify process efficiencies;
-- Recommending revisions to business processes when applicable;
-- Preparing reports on financial status and operations for external oversight authorities.

Skills

Strong preference given to applicants with a major in Accounting and professional certifications such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), etc.

The ideal candidate is someone with a desire for continual learning and strong communication, problem-solving, analytic, and interpersonal skills, and using the Microsoft Office suite.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

On-the job training, Internal NSA courses, and external training will be made available based on the need and experience of the selectee.

Monday - Friday, with basic 8hr/day work requirements between 0600 and 1800 (flexible).

Mandatory Qualification Reqs

Salary Range: $57,510 - $74,759 (Entry/Developmental)

Entry is with a Bachelor's degree and no experience.

Degree must be in Accounting or a Business-related field with at least 24 semester credit hours of accounting.

Experience in recording and analyzing financial data and transactions and/or working within the accounting career field is desired.

Salary Range: $69,581 - $108,422 (Full Performance)

Degree must be in Accounting or a Business-related field with at least 24 semester credit hours of accounting.

Relevant experience must be working within the accounting career field (e.g., using financial data to plan for future opportunities and minimize risk, recording and analyzing financial data and transactions, monitoring financial systems operations for legal compliance and internal control purposes). Candidates who have met the requirements to sit for the CPA exam are preferred.
