Job Title: Herbicide Research Assistant
Location: Research Triangle Park, NC 27709


Description:

  • Employee will be involved in greenhouse, laboratory, and field experiments evaluating efficacy of crop protection materials.
  • Duties include preparation of plant material for potting greenhouse and field tests such as seeding, transplanting, propagating, and harvesting seeds or other plant parts as required.
  • Watering, fertilizing, pruning/mowing will be required as well as pest maintenance of plants as needed to ensure research quality data is generated from trials.
  • Duties include support of all greenhouse, laboratory and field trials either alone or under supervision.
  • Skills or experience in growing a variety of plants mainly crops and weeds for research purposes in both soil and soilless mixes, scheduling planting of seeds or transplants to meet specific growth stages and maintaining those plants health and vigor.
  • Keeping a clean work environment (greenhouse bays) is also required.
  • Experience in pesticide application, greenhouse, field research strongly desired.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Weed Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science or other Agricultural Science discipline.
  • Experience with conducting greenhouse, laboratory and field trials is a plus.
  • Must have ability to keep accurate records and follow research protocols as instructed.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Must have or be willing to get a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License.
  • Need to be able to lift 50 lbs and be willing to work in hot, humid or cool, damp conditions as required for greenhouse or field activities.
  • Must have good abilities to communicate with others and be able to work both independently and in teams.


Work Schedule:
  • generally Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and occasional weekend twice per month for watering plants.


Responsibilities Include:
  • Potting, Seeding, planting, transplanting, maintenance and care of crops/weeds.
  • Watering, fertilizing, pruning, cleaning, soil prep, Greenhouse upkeep (cleaning)
  • Weekend watering (occasional)


Additional skills:
