Under moderate supervision, the Buyer will be responsible for purchasing materials, supplies and services at favorable terms for the organization. Evaluates supplier bids, and at times negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Tracks purchases and updates the supplier portal, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information. Works independently and occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex. May influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.
Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, this position is based in Jeffersonville, Indiana*.
- Obtains goods required by the organization including Indirect Procurement and Direct Procurement for an aftermarket parts operation (e.g., Office Supplies, Raw Materials, Parts and Services).
Procurement processes include Product Sourcing, Pricing Negotiation, Order Processing, and Supplier Performance Management.
Obtains timely parts shipments from suppliers and provides detailed supplier performance reports to the business.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Monitors the timeliness of materials and goods supplied; follows up on the status of purchase orders with suppliers to ensure timely delivery; and communicates status of orders with internal customers via SAP and reports.
Reports purchasing planning and supply chain control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
Interprets inventory requests, customer back orders, purchase requisitions, and other documents to co-ordinate purchasing activities in view of current and anticipated demand for goods and materials.
Evaluates suppliers to ensure they meet the organization's standards of price, quality, delivery timing, and reliability of supply.
Recognizes supplier promotional campaigns and develops other opportunities to secure reduced prices.
Works with engineering to assesses supplier's products to ensure they that they comply with specifications and meet the organization's quality standards.
Analyzes and evaluates supplier bids, proposals, or quotations; negotiates prices and delivery conditions; and commits to purchases (within established limits of authority).

Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of two years purchasing experience required. Willconsider a minimum of 8 years of purchasing experience in lieu of education.
Previousexperience in Supplier Management, Vendor Relationships, Documentation Skills,Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality, Cost Accounting
SAPor Oracle knowledge a plus
Knowledgeof Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required
