Job Title: Aircraft Engineer Level 1   

Department:  Powerplant Engineering – Air Group Building, 1400 North Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville, KY  40223
Days: Mon – Fri                  Hours:  8:00am – 4:30pm                     Hours per Week: 40      
Work Environment: Office environment, business casual dress.

Job Summary:    

The Aircraft Engineer Level 1 position develops and implements safety, reliability and airworthiness policies, standards, and procedures for the UPS Air Fleet.  The Aircraft Engineer Level 1 ensures engineering practices and procedures comply with government aviation regulations.  This position develops cost-effective policies, standards, and recommendations that meet company aircraft specifications and cooperates with aircraft manufacturers to increase airframe and component dependability and reduce maintenance costs. 

Powerplant Engineering supports the UPS fleets by maintaining airworthiness and regulatory compliance as required by the FAA.  The Aircraft Engineer Level 1 position requires experience with aircraft large commercial gas turbine engines, federal regulations, development of modifications/repairs, project planning and project management.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, aircraft/engine configuration management, certification approvals, airworthiness directives, data analysis, project development and implementation, oversight of aircraft/engine/component reliability solutions, repairs, modifications and engine repair overhaul. 

Required Skills:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or other equivalent technical degree.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of Aviation Industry related engineering experience beyond College education.

  • Ability to work different shifts which can include nights and weekends when required.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.

  • Proficiency in technical analysis and working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations or certification requirements.

  • Prior Airline or Maintenance Repair Overhaul Facility (MRO) Powerplant Engineering experience.

Interpersonal Skills:  
Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work well with other team members.  Must be able to demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills.  Must have a strong mechanical aptitude, be able to multi-task, and have a hands-on approach to projects.
Federal Aviation Administration required Drug Testing Information (FAA):
