Job Title: Air Cargo Systems Support Specialist
Department: Air Cargo Systems Support – Air Group Building
The Air Cargo Systems Support Specialist is responsible for development, monitoring and maintenance of various departmental applications, databases, queries, reports and presentations. He/She displays excellent oral and written communication skills, programming ability and skills utilizing the MS Office Suite of products as well as web and database development tools. This position maintains a high level of responsibility as the result of his/her actions and decisions have an impact on the services and finances of the organization. A professional office environment with members of a team. Business casual attire. The position has contact with all levels of management.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Responds to Technology Requests
Conducts review meetings with internal customers to determine necessary requirements for new applications and enhancement details for existing applications.
Utilizes advanced skills to calculate ratios and percentages pertaining to asset utilization and revenue reporting.
Confers with the process owner to obtain agreement on proposed applications and technical specifications.
Meets with internal owners and process owners to inform them of available technical options for existing applications.
Develops and Tests Applications for Internal Customers
Develops applications utilizing project steps, documentation, analysis, building, testing, and implementation to ensure viable processes are utilized on projects.
Interacts with various departments (e.g., Louisville Web Developers, Data Resource Management, Transportation Technology Group, etc.) to develop and test applications.
Observes current work processes on internal customers (e.g., Air Cargo Marketing, Traffic Management, Industrial Engineering, etc.) to ascertain and document business requirements and process improvements.
Maintains and monitors existing ColdFusion and MS Access applications to ensure continued functionality.
Maintains Departmental Development Standards
Utilizes SQL programming tools to establish data modeling plans.
Maintains a working knowledge of the technical skill set to ensure department development standards for web and database design are maintained.
Maintains current data structures utilizing SQL programming and Visio diagramming tools to ensure processes are properly mapped.
Supports New Applications and Enhancements
Coordinates with the Training Department to provide full training and documentation on new applications and enhancements.
Coordinates application testing in a development environment with the process owner and team to ensure adherence to requirement specifications.
Conducts peer review meetings to ensure accuracy of application and database development projects.
Skills and Knowledge:
Basic level of SQL (or other database) programming language.
Advanced level of Microsoft Office Access and basic level of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The successful candidate will be goal and detail oriented, resourceful with an interest in problem solving, focused on customer service and a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Travel to other UPS locations locally as needed.
